Biography

Bachelor of Arts in Film Studies with a Minor in Global Communications by the American University of Paris (AUP), Samira is a young filmmaker focused on revealing the Cape Verdean identity with a modern gaze that mixes realism and experimentalism.

From São Vicente, Cabo Verde, Samira has spent some time in Lisbon, Mindelo, Praia and Luanda – which, in her point of view, enriched her cultural background.

With her American and European academic background, the director has professional experience as an audiovisual producer in both Cabo Verde and Angola, which deepens her visual style by adapting what she learned in college to the African reality.

Samira intends to touch problematic subjects by showing typical human connections, very natural and specific to the Cape Verdean reality – but that can be understood and cause identification with other cultures.

Director of Buska Santu (short fiction), Hora di Bai (short documentary) and Sukuru (feature).
